- A SUPER WHOLESOME AND FEEL-GOOD STORY: Are you in a reading slump you’re struggling to get out of or are you feeling low in general? Then you’re in the right place! You can’t help but fall in love with Iona and the unlikely friends she makes on her train commute and you’ll end up wanting to be a part of their gang! This is one of those books that are better experienced and I don’t want to give away much of the plot! It’s unique, it’s refreshing, it’s heartwarming and so much more!
- GLORIOUS QUEER REP: Being an out-and-proud queer person myself, books with queer protagonists always have a special place in my heart. Iona is a proud lesbian and her relationship with her long-time partner, Bea had me smiling from ear to ear! Their struggle with homophobia during their prime and how they endured through it all made me want to give them a hug! 🥺
- A HUMBLING NARRATIVE: Have you ever wondered how we’re a small part of the vast universe and there are so many people around us going through their lives and living in their own tiny part of this world, no matter how oblivious we might seem to it? We are indeed tiny specks on a massive ball hurtling through space!
- ADDRESSES AGEISM: I haven’t come across a lot of books that address this very essential topic! When Iona faces ageist discrimination at work, people jump to her aid and I couldn’t help but beam with joy!
- UNFORGETTABLE CHARACTERS: Who would have thought that one near-death experience would bring strangers together and not only make them close to each other, but close to your heart as well? You will subconsciously start rooting for every single one of them and before you know it, they would have carved a place for themselves in the chambers of your heart!

Nobody speaks to strangers on the train. But what would happen if they did?
Every day at 8:05, Iona Iverson boards the train to go to work. Every day, she sees the same people and makes assumptions about them, even giving them nicknames. But they never speak. Obviously.
Then, one morning, Smart-but-Sexist Surbiton chokes on a grape right in front of Iona. Suspiciously-Nice-New-Malden steps up to help and saves his life, and this one event sparks a chain reaction.
With nothing in common but their commute, an eclectic group of people learn that their assumptions about each other don’t match reality. But when Iona’s life begins to fall apart, will her new friends be there when she needs them most?
